You may want to explore the theme of coming of age or some other prevalent theme, symbol, imagery, or characterization in the text. The goal here is to offer an analysis, NOT a summary. You must interpret the text and investigate the deeper meanings. Support your analysis with relevant quotations from the literature. Your paper should 2-4 pages in length MLA Format Works cited page (no outside sources) Your essay must address your topic (i.e thesis). Your essay must have a central idea (stated in your thesis) that governs its development. Your essay must be organized so that every part contributes something to the reader’s understanding of the central idea. Make sure you use “narrator” or “speaker” to denote the person telling the story. You may also use the person’s name.. The voice in which the story is told does not necessarily represent the author him or herself. .Give your essay an appropriate title. Do not underline, bold, or put quotation marks around this title, but do capitalize first letters of all important words: If you include the title of the fiction in your title, make sure you italicize it. Do not say “I believe” or “I think” or “in my opinion” in your essay. Readers should be aware that literary analysis deals with forming opinions that are then supported, so it is redundant to say these are your opinions. Write about literature in the present tense.
